I think one of the things that pisses me off the most about Jenna and Amber always getting left out of this kind of thing is the irony of it. They work on a show that’s about diversity. Maybe this cast isn’t quite as diverse as you’d like, but you can’t argue that it’s one of the most diverse casts on TV right now, all shapes all sizes, different races etc, and yet when a Magazine like Elle does a spread about the Women of Ryan Murphy’s shows, of which Glee is one of them, they make their selections and do their shoots to make it look anything BUT diverse.
If not for Naya, Glee would be represented by all white girls.
Question:
When did Jewish/Hebrew become classified as ‘white’?
I’m not saying the show/shoots are the very picture of diversity they claim to be, but saying the show is represented by all white girls except Naya is kind of…insulting to Lea.
I mean, correct me if I am wrong but last I knew, from a genetic/racial classification, she’s not white/Caucasian.
I wonder why everybody gets so worked up about this. Glee was NEVER about diversity.
It was about getting all kind of different groups of people together and make them mainstream. Glee is about pop culture. It’s about mainstream.
And from where I’m standing the Glee writers do a hell of a job portraying how minorities are viewed by the mainstream audience. I mean, yea, they don’t do it on purpose, but they do it. It’s actually kind of hilarious… in a really really dark way.
So if you feel like your identity or any vital part about you is being ignored away or trampled on: welcome to mainstream, where everybody can be different as long as you’re the same.
Welcome to mainstream where you’re allowed to be an individual as long as you’re not different than your own friends.
Welcome to mainstream where women can talk about feminism all they want, but when it comes to action, you better get your man lift the heavy things for you and pay your bills.
Welcome to mainstream pop culture, where minorities are welcome, but only white males are celebrated.
And sorry, but Ryan Murphy is a perfect example of a sex addict and misogynist. And yes, it’s also because he’s a gay guy, because if you haven’t noticed, yet, sexism does exist within the gay community as well. It’s actually worse, because newsflash: gay guys don’t like women very much. They celebrate feminity on a whole nother level. Of course this doesn’t go for everyone, duh. But it does go for the uneducated folks and it’s certainly true for RM.
